Milan, March 25 – Coca-Cola introduces KeelClip™ technology to the Italian market, an innovative packaging system, made of FSC paper from a responsible supply chain and 100% recyclable, which allows the plastic wrapping to be completely eliminated from multiple packs of cans. This technology represents a further step towards increasingly sustainable packaging and will make it possible to reduce CO2 emissions on these packages by 50% and save 450 tons of plastic per year.

The launch of KeelClip™ in Italy is the result of a 9 million euro industrial plan in the Nogara (VR) and Marcianise (CE) plants that confirms Coca-Cola's commitment to the environment and the centrality of the country in attracting strategic investments. Already today, all plastic, glass and aluminum packaging used is 100% recyclable and partly already made of recycled material: with this additional investment, the company is also focusing on so-called secondary packaging, the one not in direct contact with the product.

"Sustainability is a key value of our business choices and the way we do business," said Manuel Biella, Supply Chain Director of Coca-Cola HBC Italia "The introduction of KeelClip™, which adds to the numerous innovation and sustainability projects with investments of over 100 million euros in the last 10 years, is a further step towards reducing the impact of our packaging for an increasingly circular economy".

KeelClip™ is one of the most technologically advanced solutions in the management of multiple packs: it is a system consisting of a paper top that hooks onto the cans and a central part that stabilizes the package. The innovative packaging is present on the packaging of the 330ml, 150 ml and 500ml regular cans of Coca-Cola Original Taste, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Fanta Original and Sprite.

This innovation is part of Coca-Cola's long-term sustainability strategy, called World Without Waste, which – among other commitments – includes the increasing use of recycled plastic in packaging and the reduction of raw material in glass, aluminum and plastic packaging for an increasingly circular economy.
