Marcianise, 08 October 2021 – A special "Blue Day" was held today, the day dedicated to raising awareness of environmental care and the importance of preserving the marine ecosystem, created by Coca-Cola with Marevivo. For the first time, the Coca-Cola HBC Italia plant in Marcianise stopped production for one day to allow 100 employees to participate,  on a voluntary basis during working hours, in a day of awareness and training on environmental protection issues. During the day, in fact, the employees helped preserve the coastal beauty through a simple gesture of cleaning the beaches of Mondragone (CE), recovering abandoned waste so that it can be properly disposed of and, where possible, recycled to have a second life.

The initiative is part of the "Blue Activities" project, conceived and implemented by Marevivo with the unconditional support of The Coca-Cola Foundation, which in recent years has seen the environmental association engaged in numerous cleaning actions of the Italian coast, combined with environmental and sustainability education activities.

"For years, as a company, we have been investing to make the concept of circular economy more and more concrete by working on all aspects of the business, from production to our customers' points of sale. With initiatives like this we can take a further step forward and I thank Marevivo for supporting us in organizing it" said Monica RispoliPlant Manager of Coca-Cola HBC Italia in Marcianise "Blocking production is a symbolic gesture to underline how much this issue is really close to our hearts and we hope it can be an example for other industrial realities. I am very happy that so many colleagues have accepted the invitation to join this day of corporate volunteering to clean our beaches ruined by uncivilized behavior"

The collaboration on "Blue Day" is part of Coca-Cola's long-term sustainability strategy, called World Without Waste, which includes clear global goals to eliminate waste. In Italy, all the packaging produced by the company is already 100% recyclable and new bottles made with 100% recycled plastic (rPET) have been introduced for various brands in its product portfolio, for a total of 150 million packages made in 2021. A further step forward has also been taken on secondary packaging, the one not in direct contact with the product, with the recent introduction of KeelClip™, the innovative 100% recyclable paper packaging system, which allows you to completely eliminate plastic wrapping from multiple packs of cans. In addition, after Fanta, the color has also been removed from Sprite bottles, in order to make it easier to recycle into new transparent bottles.
