Milan, 3 June 2021 – Coca-Cola HBC Italia, the main bottler and distributor of The Coca-Cola Company brand products in Italy, on the occasion of World Environment Day, publishes its 17th Sustainability Report, entitled "Our message for the future", available only in digital format on lanostraricetta.it. The document, reviewed by Deloitte & Touche, collects the company's results in the three dimensions of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. In particular, Coca-Cola HBC Italia has invested over 100 million in the latter in the last 10 years.
From factories to consumers, the company thus confirms its commitment to making its activities increasingly sustainable: from innovations in primary and secondary packaging, including the recent introductions of KeelClip™ - the innovative 100% recyclable paper packaging - and the first bottles with 100% recycled plastic (rPET), through the optimization of logistics flows and the conscious management of resources in the production process, with a 20% saving of water used to produce beverages in the last 10 years, up to customer stores where 63% of the company's refrigerators are eco-friendly, with a reduction of 3,500 tons of CO2 each year.
"Sustainability, understood in its broadest sense of economic, social and environmental sustainability, is now more than ever configured as a strategic lever to face, govern and anticipate the challenges of the post-Covid world" said Frank O'Donnell, CEO of Coca-Cola HBC Italia "Also this year, for the seventeenth time, we have chosen to share our message for the future through the Sustainability Report: Not a simple story, but an invitation to all our interlocutors to continue side by side on this new path"
Drawn up in accordance with the GRI Standard international reporting parameters, the 2020 Sustainability Report also describes the other ingredients of Coca-Cola HBC Italia's recipe which, in addition to the environment, include attention to the growth and well-being of the approximately 2,000 people who work between offices, plant and sales force, involved in more than 50,000 hours of training during 2020. Particular attention was also paid to communities during the year marked by the Covid-19 emergency, which saw the company alongside the country on various fronts: from the 23,500 young people involved in the #YouthEmpowered programme, transformed digitally during the transition to distance learning, to the donation of 1.4 million euros to the Italian Red Cross, together with Coca-Cola Italia and The Coca-Cola Foundation.
