Our Commitments to Packaging

Packaging

We promote continuous investment in packaging innovation through collaborations with universities to identify alternative materials, by exploring solutions that can reduce packaging weight, and by planning investments to continuously optimize the technologies used at our facilities.

Our efforts

In Italy, our entire product portfolio is made using recyclable PET, and the bottles for all our beverages are made, excluding the cap and label, from 100% recycled plastic (rPET).

In 2025, we continued to invest in recycled plastic and introduced this valuable material into our water bottles as well. In particular, the 500 ml Lurisia Bolle and Stille water bottles, excluding the cap and label, are made from 100% rPET, using resin produced in-house, while the Lilia, Lilia Frizzante and Sveva bottles in the same format contain 50% rPET.

Bottles obtained with the use of rPET preforms may have colors that differ from the normal transparency that is usually observed with the use of virgin PET preforms. This deviation of color from the transparency of the bottle does not affect in any way the quality and safety of the product contained in them.

We have launched lightweighting projects for our packaging materials with the aim of reducing our impact in terms of indirect emissions. A structured partnership with our packaging suppliers is key to advancing industrialized lightweighting programs, based on primary data and compliance testing, in order to optimize packaging weight and volume.

KeelClip™ is a FSC-certified paper packaging system, sourced from a responsible supply chain and recyclable, which eliminates plastic wrapping from multipacks of cans.

Clear PET is more easily recyclable than coloured PET. For this reason, since 2022, we have moved away from the traditional orange and green colouring for Fanta and Sprite.

As early as 2023, Coca-Cola extended tethered caps (caps attached to the bottle) to the main brands in its portfolio. In 2024, tethered caps were also introduced on our water bottles produced at the Rionero and Roccaforte Mondovì plants, with the aim of simplifying collection and recycling and reducing plastic leakage into the environment.

This is an innovation that Coca-Cola had already implemented in 2021, anticipating the requirements concerning closures for single-use plastic beverage containers set out in the EU Single-Use Plastics (SUP) Directive, which came into force in July 2024

We collaborate with non-governmental organizations and industry consortia to promote awareness of the importance of proper waste disposal.
